Wildfires continue to ravage Brunswick County and NC coast.
The Green Swamp Preserve wildfire in Brunswick County has expanded to 16,000 acres due to factors such as thick vegetation and lack of fire in the area since the 1950s. The fire was caused by a prescribed burn that reignited and is currently at 0% containment. Crews are implementing strategic operations to contain the fire and NC Highway 211 is closed until further notice. No injuries or structures are threatened at this time, but the Green Swamp Nature Preserve remains closed.
