Coastal wildfire in NC engulfs over 16,000 acres, air quality to worsen.
The Pulp Road Fire in North Carolina remains at 11,500 acres, with firefighting crews using backfiring operations and aerial ignition to reduce unburned fuels. Smoke is expected to impact several communities throughout the day. The N.C. Forest Service Red Incident Management Team will assume command of the incident. The public is reminded to keep drones away from wildfires. No injuries or structures are threatened at this time, but the Green Swamp Nature Preserve remains closed. Highway 211 may potentially close to ensure safety for firefighters and travelers.
