'Pay What You Can' Cafe Closes After One Year of Anti-Capitalist Experiment.
The Anarchist, an anti-capitalist coffee shop in Toronto that operated on a "pay what you can" system, is closing down after slightly more than a year in business. The owner blamed the lack of "seed capital" from "ethically bankrupt sources" for the failure of the business venture. Businesses in Canada have been severely impacted by government lockdowns and vaccine mandates over the past three years. The Anarchist is not the first small business founded on explicitly leftist principles to recently fail in spectacular fashion.
