Wii Sports has been officially selected for induction into The Strong Museum's 'World Video Game Hall of Fame' alongside Barbie Fashion Designer, Computer Space, and The Last of Us. Unfortunately, GoldenEye 007, Quake, and Age of Empires missed out. The final inductees were chosen based on their sustained popularity and influence on the video game industry or popular culture.
Former Rare director Joel Hochberg has passed away at the age of 87. He oversaw the company's business operations in the US and was credited with a "special thanks" in games like Donkey Kong Country, GoldenEye 007, and Conker's Bad Fur Day. Hochberg was remembered by former executive Tim Stamper as someone who "changed the course of history" for Rare.
Nintendo classics Wii Sports and GoldenEye 007 have been nominated for the 2023 World Video Game Hall of Fame, alongside other games such as Quake, Age of Empires, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, FIFA, Angry Birds, NBA series, The Last of Us, Barbie Fashion Designer, Wizardry, and Computer Space. The final inductees will be revealed on May 4, 2023, and will join existing inductees such as Animal Crossing, Super Mario Bros., Street Fighter II, Minecraft, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
