Global Interfaith Leaders Unite to Combat Authoritarianism in Chicago
More than 6,000 interfaith leaders from various religions and belief systems are gathering in Chicago for the week-long Parliament of the World's Religions, focusing on combating authoritarianism and defending freedom and human rights. The event, which marks the organization's return to its roots in Chicago, will feature speakers such as U.N. Secretary General António Guterres and former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Topics on the agenda include climate change, human rights, food insecurity, racism, and women's rights. The interfaith movement has evolved to become more diverse and inclusive, although conservative Catholics, evangelicals, and Muslims have not embraced it.
