Rockies' Germán Márquez to have Tommy John surgery.
Colorado Rockies pitcher Germán Márquez will undergo Tommy John surgery, which will keep him out of action for the rest of the season and at least the first half of 2024. Márquez has been the club's best pitcher in recent years and losing him is a significant blow to the struggling team. The Rockies are also deprived of their best summer trade candidate. Márquez signed a $43 million contract extension with the Rockies in 2019, which runs through 2023, but the team may take the $2.5 million buyout instead of the $16 million option next year, sending him to the open market.
