Hidden Histories Surface in a German Farmhouse in Sound of Falling
German director Mascha Schilinski’s Sound of Falling uses a nonlinear, multi-decade narrative and inventive sound design to reveal women’s hidden traumas on a Saxony-Anhalt farm (1910s–2020s); the film has earned Cannes’ Jury Prize, is Germany’s submission for the international feature Oscar, was shot on a modest budget over 33 days on a single farm, and opens in U.S. theaters.
