AI Pioneer Warns of Possible Human Extinction.
Geoffrey Hinton, a computer scientist known as the "godfather of artificial intelligence," has warned that it is "not inconceivable" for AI to pose a threat to humanity. He predicts that general purpose AI, which has several intended and unintended purposes, could be developed in 20 years or less. Hinton also warned that computers could eventually gain the ability to create ideas to improve themselves, which could be difficult to control. These comments come as artificial intelligence software continues to grow in popularity, with OpenAI's ChatGPT recently shocking users by being able to compose songs, create content, and even write code.
