Activision Blizzard Settles Gender Discrimination Lawsuit for $54 Million
Activision Blizzard has agreed to pay approximately $54 million to settle a major gender discrimination lawsuit filed by the California Civil Rights Department (CRD). The settlement, subject to court approval, includes additional measures to ensure fair pay and promotion practices at the company. The settlement fund will provide monetary relief to women who were employed by or contracting at Activision Blizzard between October 2015 and December 2020. If approved, around $45 million will go directly to compensating workers, with any excess funds distributed to charitable organizations focused on advancing women in video games and tech or promoting awareness of gender equality issues in the workplace. The lawsuit, which accused Activision Blizzard of fostering a discriminatory culture, was one of the factors behind Microsoft's acquisition of the company.
