The M3 Max chip, found in the high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, has been tested on Geekbench and shows performance on par with the M2 Ultra chip found in Mac Pro and high-end Mac Studio desktops. The M3 Max chip achieves impressive scores in both single-core and multi-core tests, surpassing its predecessor, the M2 Max, by 10% and 44% respectively. The M3 Max chip features 12 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, with each core benefiting from architectural upgrades and a 3 nanometer process. The mid-range M3 Pro chip is expected to show less significant performance gains compared to the M2 Pro. Real-world performance increases and specific application timings are yet to be determined through reviews. The new MacBook Pros with M3 chips are available for order, with the high-end M3 Max models shipping later in November.
