A man and a woman have been charged with involuntary manslaughter after the minivan they were in struck and killed Michelle Williamson, 47, in a Walmart parking lot in Gastonia, North Carolina. The crash also injured Williamson's two children, who were taken to the hospital. The suspects turned themselves in and the investigation is ongoing.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers were shot at in Gastonia while serving a warrant for a homicide suspect, Joseph Sherman Crawford, who allegedly began shooting from his car at an unmarked police car and a nearby house. Crawford was arrested by CMPD and charged with first-degree murder related to the death of Ryan Shamel Elliott and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. No CMPD officers fired their service weapons, and there were no known injuries. Gastonia Police are conducting their own investigation for the attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and felony to elude.
