Microsoft is expanding Xbox Cloud Gaming to include Xbox Game Pass Core and Standard subscribers, allowing more users to stream cloud games without needing the higher-tier Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and is also testing access to select PC games for these tiers.
Microsoft is replacing Xbox Live Gold with a new subscription tier called Game Pass Core on September 14th. The $60 per year (or $10 per month) subscription will be required for online multiplayer gaming and will include a base collection of over 25 games, with new additions two to three times per year. Games with Gold, which offered monthly free games, will be discontinued. Existing Live Gold members will automatically switch to Game Pass Core, and redeemed Xbox 360 games will be kept even if the subscription lapses. This move is seen as a way to encourage users to upgrade to the Ultimate subscription, which offers a larger game selection and additional benefits.
