This move reflects the country's relative isolation in the gaming industry and the challenges it faces in developing a robust gaming platform. Experts estimate that it could take 5 to 10 years and 5 to 10 billion rubles to create a gaming platform that would still lag behind existing foreign solutions. This initiative comes as a response to the dwindling access to foreign games and a decline in domestic game development in Russia.

Chinese company Powkiddy has released the Powkiddy Y6 GameStick, a TV stick that allows users to play retro games on a big screen. The stick comes with an Amlogic S905X2 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, with the option to upgrade to 128GB. It supports games from classic consoles of the 1980s and early 1990s, including Sega, Nintendo, and Sony consoles up through the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation Portable or Nintendo 64. The stick comes with two controllers and is available for $47 from AliExpress.
