Deadly Jihadist Attack Claims Lives of Niger Soldiers
Suspected jihadists attacked a military unit in Niger's southwest, killing seven soldiers. In a tragic turn of events, five additional soldiers died in a traffic accident while responding to the assault. The attack took place in the Tillaberi region, known as a hideout for jihadist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State. The incident comes as France prepares to withdraw its anti-terrorism force from Niger, following a coup two months ago. The post-coup government has cited the deteriorating security situation as justification for the French withdrawal.
