CarWow's latest drag race features a 2019 Ford Mustang GT, a Shelby Cobra replica, and a 1998 Dodge Viper, all with 460 horsepower. Despite the Mustang's launch control, the Cobra consistently wins the quarter-mile races due to its lighter weight and larger rear tires, while the Viper takes the lead in a half-mile race. The Mustang, however, excels in braking tests thanks to its ABS, outperforming the other two vehicles.
Middleton Ford in Middleton, Wisconsin is the first to put the S650 Mustang GT on a dyno, showcasing the updated Coyote V-8 engine's performance. Equipped with a 5.0-liter V-8, the 2024 Mustang GT Convertible produces 486 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque. The dyno test was conducted in fifth gear due to the automatic transmission's gear ratios, resulting in figures of 397 hp and 352 lb-ft of torque on the first run, 408 hp and 351 lb-ft on the second run, and 405 hp and 347 lb-ft on the third run. The team estimates the car is capable of around 420 horsepower at the wheels. A six-speed manual version will also undergo dyno testing, providing more accurate figures.
A tourist's off-road adventure in a rental Ford Mustang GT ended in trouble when the low-slung muscle car got stuck in the sands of Utah. The car, rented from Hertz, had to be towed out of the sandy area after getting stuck wheels-deep. A video shared on YouTube by Matt's Off-Road Recovery shows the recovery process, which involved using a tow rope hooked up to a Jeep's solid rear axle to create a lower pull point. The incident serves as a reminder to exercise common sense and avoid taking a Mustang out on soft sand, especially as a rental car.
A new Carwow video shows a tuned Camaro ZL1 and Mustang GT drag racing against a stock Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. The Camaro finished second in the first race, while the Mustang struggled for traction. However, the Mustang won the next two races, beating the Challenger to the quarter-mile finish line both times. The Dodge won both rolling races but lost the brake test.
