The Fascinating Reason Biting Flies Are Drawn to Blue
Scientists have discovered why biting flies are attracted to the color blue. Researchers trained artificial neural networks to simulate the brains of biting flies and found that the flies often misclassified blue objects as animals to feed on, likely due to using blue-green opponency in photoreceptors to distinguish animals from leaf matter. The study aims to help build better flytraps to control the spread of diseases carried by biting flies.
