Flying Pig Marathon perseveres through storms and fundraising efforts.

Despite bad weather moving in, the organizers of the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati decided to go ahead with the race, issuing a "shelter-in-place" recommendation for runners. Race director Iris Simpson-Bush consulted with experts and felt that the medical team and volunteers were well-versed in what to do to assist. Many runners chose to continue despite the recommendation, citing personal responsibility and the investment they had made in the race. The official clock ran, and chip times reflected the total time from start to finish.

Storms Pause Flying Pig Marathon, Lift Shelter-in-Place Order.

The Flying Pig Marathon lifted a shelter-in-place order after thunderstorms hit the area earlier this morning. Runners were advised to take shelter at designated locations, but the course remained open for those who wanted to continue. Safety concerns were expressed due to heavy lightning in the area, and times won't be adjusted for those who stopped to find shelter. Thunderstorms are expected to continue until at least 9 a.m.
