FlyDubai has placed an order for 30 Boeing 787-9s, marking a significant fleet development for the regional airline. The first delivery is expected in 2026. The move is seen as a surprising development as FlyDubai has historically operated smaller jets on regional routes. The airline's executives state that the Dreamliners will primarily be used to increase capacity on existing routes rather than for long-haul flights. The order is believed to have been negotiated as part of Emirates modifying its own Boeing 787 order.
A flydubai flight from Kathmandu to Dubai experienced a bird strike during takeoff but returned to the United Arab Emirates. The engine caught fire shortly after takeoff from Kathmandu, but the fire was under control, and the Boeing 737-800 plane had 167 passengers on board. The aircraft landed normally in Dubai just after midnight local time, and further inspection would be conducted.
A FlyDubai aircraft with nearly 150 people on board reported a problem in one of its engines soon after taking off from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal. The aircraft returned back and hovered over the skies in Dharke after a problem was reported in one of its engines. The pilots later told the control tower they will continue after finding out that all indicators are normal. The aircraft took off from Tribhuvan International Airport at 9.20 am and is scheduled to land in Dubai at 00:14 local time.
