"Controversial Inmate Deaths Cast Shadow on Sheriff Bonner's Mayoral Campaign"
A 62-year-old woman, Rebecca Faircloth, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder and firearms charges, died after experiencing a medical episode while in custody at the Duval County jail in Jacksonville, Florida. Faircloth had been brought breakfast and was upright and alert before the medical emergency occurred. Despite rescue efforts, including CPR and the use of an AED, she passed away two days later. The cause of her death will be determined through an autopsy, but a medical letter in her court records indicated she had been diagnosed with Lupus and sleep apnea. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office stated that there is no indication that Faircloth's contact with other inmates or officers contributed to the medical emergency.
