Mamdani's primary victory in NYC's mayoral race has caused uncertainty among high-end real estate buyers and wealthy residents, leading some to pause or reconsider their plans and others to accelerate relocation to states like Florida, which is experiencing a surge in new residents and real estate activity.
Florida-based real estate company MV Realty, accused of using deceptive and unfair sales tactics, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 33 states, including Massachusetts. The company has faced lawsuits and investigations, including a complaint from the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office, alleging that MV Realty deceived over 400 homeowners into signing "abusive contracts" in exchange for a 40-year exclusive power of sale mortgage on their property. The bankruptcy filing may provide an opportunity for the court to address the validity of these contracts. Multiple state attorneys general have taken legal action against the company, and legislation has been enacted in 16 states to target MV Realty's controversial contracts and liens.
