Spirit Airlines is ending service in 12 cities and has filed for bankruptcy for the second time this year, leading rival airlines like United and Frontier to expand their routes to capture market share amid its financial struggles.
Lincoln's flight service, Red Way, has announced that it will cease operations, resulting in the cancellation of all flights booked after August 31. The airline cited a lack of demand for some destinations and the inability to sustain operations due to financial challenges as reasons for the shutdown. Customers will receive full refunds automatically, with the process expected to be completed by the end of the week. Red Way Airlines, a partnership between the Lincoln Airport, GlobalX Air Tours, and Global Crossing Airlines, had aimed to boost tourism and travel to Lincoln. The service was made possible by $3 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan Act.
