"Notre-Dame: From Fire to Restoration in Timelapse"

Five years after the devastating fire at Notre-Dame cathedral, restoration efforts are nearing completion, with the re-opening scheduled for December and running on schedule. The project has cost 550 million euros, funded in part by massive donations, including from luxury sector billionaires Francois Henri Pinault and the Arnault family. An additional 150 million euros may be used to restore the cathedral and tackle pre-existing problems. French President Macron aims for the restoration to lift the nation's mood as the world's attention turns to Paris for the Olympic Games.

Macron marks 4-year anniversary of Notre-Dame fire with cathedral visit and reconstruction tour.

French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Notre-Dame Cathedral on the fourth anniversary of the fire that destroyed significant parts of the historic landmark. The cathedral is due to regain its famous spire by the end of the year, and its 80-tonne wooden base is due to be completed on Saturday. The cathedral is set to reopen by the end of 2024, and plans for an internal redesign are due to be approved this summer. A judicial investigation is ongoing to determine the causes of the fire, while a judge is also investigating subsequent lead pollution.
