Nine wrestlers secured their spots on the 2025 U.S. Senior Men’s Freestyle World Team during the Final X event in Newark, with notable upsets like high schooler PJ Duke defeating Yianni Diakomihalis, and seasoned champions Spencer Lee, Kyle Snyder, and Zahid Valencia sweeping their finals to qualify for the World Championships in Croatia.
Six members of Penn State's Olympic Regional Training Center/Nittany Lion Wrestling Club won at the Final X event and will represent the US at the 2023 Senior World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Five of the US Men's Freestyle World Team train in Happy Valley, with Penn State and the RTC/NLWC having half of the members of Team USA's men's freestyle team headed to Belgrade. The event also featured a lengthy list of 'true third' matches, which determined the third member of the US National Team at each weight class.
The USA Wrestling world team trials process culminated with Final X presented by Tezos, where the winners of the best 2-of-3 series in all three styles advanced to the 2023 UWW World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. The 2023 Wrestling World Team Trials Challenge Tournament has determined the last 17 spots for Final X, with champions in 3 men's freestyle weights, 4 women's freestyle weights, and all 10 Greco-Roman weights advancing to Final X on June 10 in Newark, New Jersey. The tournament featured several Greco-Roman finals matchups, with Dalton Duffield, Ildar Hafizov, and Sammy Jones among the winners.
