BART experienced major delays due to a person in the Transbay Tube, causing service disruptions in multiple directions. Trains to the East Bay were turned back at the Embarcadero station, and commuters were advised to use ferries or buses. BART police are searching for the person who entered the tube.
Stormy weather across the Baltic Sea region caused airport delays, suspended ferry services, and a train derailment in Sweden. One person was killed in Lithuania, and extensive damage was reported in Latvia. The storm also affected Denmark and Norway, with flooded streets and raised weather warnings.
The MBTA will offer free rides on the Blue Line and a new ferry service to help riders during the Sumner Tunnel closure this summer. The tunnel will be closed from July 5th to August 31st for restoration work. The MBTA is also offering free and reduced water ferry service, reduced fares on the commuter rail, reduced parking costs, and additional options for travelers to and from Logan International Airport. The Sumner Tunnel closure is expected to create heavy traffic in East Boston while it's closed.
