"Rockies Bolster Bullpen with Fernando Abad Acquisition"
The Colorado Rockies have selected the contract of left-hander Fernando Abad, while optioning right-hander Peter Lambert to Triple-A and designating shortstop Connor Kaiser for assignment. Abad, a veteran journeyman, has a career 3.82 ERA and 4.31 FIP in 351 innings of work. He will join the Rockies' bullpen as a left-handed option. Lambert, once a promising prospect, has struggled with injuries and ineffectiveness, posting a 6.29 ERA in 34 1/3 innings this season. He will pitch out of the rotation in Triple-A.
