Medellin Cartel Leader Freed After 25 Years in U.S. Prison
Fabio Ochoa Vásquez, a former key operator of the Medellin cocaine cartel, has been released from a U.S. prison after serving 25 years of a 30-year sentence and is expected to be deported back to Colombia. Ochoa, who was once listed as a billionaire by Forbes, was convicted in 2001 for his role in a drug smuggling conspiracy. Despite his imprisonment, authorities were unable to seize all of his illicit proceeds, suggesting he will return to Colombia with significant wealth.
