The Demise of Call of Duty's DMZ Mode

Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty's extraction mode, DMZ, will receive no updates and will be separate from the Modern Warfare 3/Warzone ecosystem with the launch of Season 1 of Modern Warfare III on December 6, 2023. While players can still continue to play the mode, there won't be any future content updates and progression towards battle pass rewards will not be possible. The end of DMZ is disappointing for fans who enjoyed its unique gameplay experience, as there are few approachable multiplayer extraction shooters available.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 introduces a new Zombies mode called Operation Deadbolt, which offers large-scale extraction gameplay in a PvE environment. Similar to MW2's DMZ, players can choose how they want to play, whether it's for kills, map exploration, or completing story missions. The mode features familiar mechanics and menus from DMZ, including operator slots and a backpack for storing loot. Loadouts, field upgrades, and Wonder Weapons are also available, along with Perk-a-Cola machines and Wall Buys. Players can unlock acquisitions and schematics to craft various items, and there are tiered missions, contracts, and Buy Stations for additional rewards. Modern Warfare 3 releases on November 10.
