Corruption and Controversy Surround Memphis School Board
Former Vice Chair of Memphis-Shelby County Schools board, Sheleah Harris, resigned due to corruption and misuse of funds in the district. She called for an immediate external audit of the entire district going back at least five years. Harris found corruption in the district regarding contracts and manipulation in the superintendent search. The board responded by saying that MSCS is audited annually by two certified public accounting firms, but did not address any of the other claims made by Harris.
