The Seattle Sounders defeated San Diego Loyal SC 5-4 in a wild U.S. Open Cup match, with Fredy Montero scoring two goals and becoming the all-time leading scorer in the competition for the Sounders. Ethan Dobbelaere and Paul Rothrock also scored their first goals for the Sounders First Team, while four Tacoma Defiance players made appearances. The match went into extra time and was ultimately decided by a game-winning penalty kick from Montero.
