Attendees at the Evo 2023 esports tournament reported that PlayStation 5 (PS5) USB ports melted when USB accessories were plugged into the consoles. Multiple participants shared accounts and photos on social media showing damaged USB ports. The cause of the overheating is unclear, but it may be due to the unusual conditions of the tournament, including the use of unsupported USB converters and the constant plugging and unplugging of accessories. PlayStation and Evo 2023 have not yet responded to requests for comment.
