The collection, created in partnership with emerging designers Victor Anate and Edvin Thompson, aims to shine a spotlight on diverse talent and will be size inclusive and affordable. Campbell acknowledges the criticism of fast fashion but believes this collaboration is a way to effect change in the industry and give emerging designers a global platform. The full collection will be revealed at the PLT x Naomi Campbell runway show on September 5.
Austin Fashion Week, the fourth largest in the US, recently concluded with 27 local high school students debuting their designs. The event has become known as a hub for emerging designers, especially in the central part of the US in Texas. The students worked with Austin-based home shopping network Shop LC to prepare for the event. Founder Matt Swinney said he has seen the fashion industry grow tremendously in the 15 years of AFW's existence, with many people moving to Austin from the coasts and bringing their expertise and talent with them.
The Fashion Trust U.S. held its inaugural awards ceremony in Los Angeles to celebrate emerging designers and provide them with mentorship and funding. The winners were selected by a panel of judges and included Aisling Camps, Soull and Dynasty Ogun of L’Enchanteur, Papa Oppong, Agbobly, Elena Velez, and Puppets and Puppets. The event was attended by celebrities and fashion industry leaders, and promises to become an annual event to support the next generation of talent.
