"Unveiling the Magnetic Revolution: Diamonds and Rust Rewrite Physics Textbooks"
Researchers have used diamond quantum sensing to observe magnetic monopoles, isolated magnetic charges, in hematite, a type of iron oxide. These monopoles glide across swirling textures on the surface of hematite, and their emergence through collective behavior of many spins has been observed experimentally for the first time. The study reveals a direct connection between the swirling textures and magnetic charges, potentially enabling next-generation logic and memory applications in computing technologies.
