Staten Island residents are outraged after a court overturned a judge's decision to block the placement of asylum seekers in a former school. The city won an emergency appeal, allowing the asylum seekers to stay at the vacant Saint John Villa Academy. Angry neighbors expressed concerns about the proximity of the shelter to their tightknit community, while protesters vowed to continue demonstrating until the asylum seekers are removed. The issue will be heard in court again in early September. Over 100,000 asylum seekers have arrived in New York City, with less than 2% being sheltered on Staten Island.
