Memphis player's punch mars WNIT handshake line.
Memphis' athletic department issued a statement following the Tigers' loss at Bowling Green where leading scorer Jamirah Shutes struck Bowling Green's Elissa Brett in the postgame handshake line. The incident is being handled by local authorities and Memphis is cooperating fully with their process. Shutes stopped to say something to Brett during the handshake line, the two exchanged words and when Brett walked away, Shutes reached out and struck her in the head. Memphis won 22 games this season under second-year coach Katrina Merriweather.
