Garner Products has developed the DiskMantler, a machine that uses vibration to disassemble hard drives, allowing for the recovery of valuable components such as rare-earth magnets. This innovative approach not only improves the recovery and sorting of hard drives but also has the potential to revolutionize rare-earth magnet recycling, which is currently energy-intensive and not cost-effective. Another Canadian firm, HyProMag, is also working on reusing drive magnets more directly, creating new sources that don't require extraction and aren't as globally concentrated.
