A massive structure fire in Brattleboro, Vermont, has claimed the life of 61-year-old Deirdre Baker. The fire, which was determined to be accidental and caused by an electrical issue, engulfed a two and a half story wood frame building on Lexington Ave. Fire crews were unable to attack the blaze from the inside due to its size, and there was a risk of it spreading to nearby buildings and vehicles. The fire was eventually brought under control, and Baker's body was found on the second floor. An investigation is ongoing.
A firefighter in Camden County was injured while investigating an underground electrical issue at a Dunkin' in Camden, New Jersey. The firefighter came in contact with an electrical box and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Smoke was seen coming from a manhole near the Dunkin', and a fire was emanating from an underground electrical unit below the coffee shop. The incident caused a power surge and an explosion, injuring the firefighter. New Jersey Transit light rail service was impacted, and an investigation is underway.
