Elbow Inflammation Delays Tigers' Melton Ahead of Opening Day
Detroit right-hander Troy Melton has halted his throwing program with elbow inflammation, putting Opening Day in doubt. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said the issue isn’t believed to be long-term and Melton could return soon after a brief IL stint; the young pitcher impressed as a rookie with a 2.76 ERA in 45 2/3 innings and remains in the club’s plans, though the Tigers will be cautious and possibly keep him stretched out in the minors if needed.
