DOJ Charges 'Chapitos' and 27 Others in Fentanyl Trafficking Indictments
The US Justice Department has charged more than two dozen people, including three sons of drug kingpin Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, and other members of the Sinaloa cartel, in a crackdown on fentanyl trafficking. The charges target "the largest, most violent, and most prolific fentanyl trafficking operation in the world — run by the Sinaloa cartel, and fueled by Chinese precursor chemical and pharmaceutical companies," according to Attorney General Merrick Garland. Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans under the age of 40.
