The New York Mets have recalled third baseman Brett Baty and relief pitcher Edwin Uceta, placed pinch runner Tim Locastro on the injured list with back spasms, and optioned starting pitcher José Butto back to Triple-A Syracuse. Baty tore up Triple-A to start his 2023 season, hitting an incredible .400/.500/.886 with five home runs and 15 runs batted in. The decision to recall Baty was an easy one, and he should give the Mets’ lineup a boost.

Pirates add Tyler Heineman as backup catcher, place Austin Hedges on IL.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed catcher Austin Hedges on the seven-day concussion injured list and selected Tyler Heineman to take his active roster spot. To open a spot for Heineman on the 40-man, right-hander Edwin Uceta was designated for assignment. Outfielder Ryan Vilade, who was designated for assignment last week, cleared waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis.
