Cubs Bolster Pitching Depth with Mets Reliever Claim
The Chicago Cubs have claimed right-hander Edwin Uceta off waivers from the New York Mets and have optioned him to Triple-A Iowa. Uceta, who has been with five organizations in the past eight months, has shown potential despite unimpressive overall numbers. He has a 5.80 ERA in 40 1/3 innings in the majors but has performed better in Triple-A. Uceta recently returned from a knee injury and will need to be on the Cubs' big league roster next year or pass through waivers before being sent down.
