"2024 Solar Eclipse: School Closures, Viewing Times, and Safety Glasses Guide"
Many school districts in upstate New York are canceling classes or dismissing students early on Monday due to the rare total solar eclipse, with concerns about traffic, liability for eye damage, and the educational opportunity. New York City schools, however, are staying open despite some parents' concerns. Some districts are using unused snow days or extending spring breaks, while others are giving students the day off to enjoy the eclipse on their own time. The eclipse's zone of totality will pass through 29 of New York's 62 counties, with the event also partially visible downstate.
