Portland Public Schools has appointed Kimberlee Armstrong, the former chief academic officer and current deputy superintendent of Evergreen Public Schools, as its new superintendent after a six-month national search. Armstrong will be the first Black woman to lead Oregon's largest school district, with a focus on improving reading and math achievement for Black and Indigenous students.
The Broward County School Board has voted 7-2 to hire Peter Licata, a regional superintendent for the Palm Beach County School District, as its new superintendent. Licata has worked for Palm Beach schools since 1994 and has experience as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and curriculum director. He has a doctorate degree in global leadership from Lynn University, in addition to a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and a master’s degree from Barry University. The board will negotiate a contract with Licata on June 21 and 22.
