Edgewater Neighbors Challenge Broadway Upzone in Court
Edgewater residents and Edgewater/Uptown business owners have sued the City of Chicago to overturn Broadway’s upzoning approved by City Council, arguing due process and notification failures and that the rezoning to allow taller, denser development along Broadway from Devon to Montrose—with changes to zoning classifications (C1-5, B3-5, B3-3) and a pedestrian-street designation—threatens the neighborhood’s fabric. A March 13 hearing is scheduled in Cook County Circuit Court; the city says it has not yet been served. Supporters and opponents held campaigns around the rezoning as the lawsuit proceeds.
