The company wants to make its Q3 2023 numbers less miserable, as it has already seen its profits tumble 95% in Q1 2023. Samsung has reportedly ordered components for the phones a few weeks earlier than usual, including a waterdrop-shaped hinge to make the phone more durable and the screen crease less visible. The phones will use the same M12 OLED material-based screens as their predecessors.

Analyst Ross Young suggests that production estimates for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 are double that of its predecessor, indicating Samsung's focus on selling more foldable smartphones. The early launch is likely an attempt to prevent other foldable phone makers from stealing the spotlight and to distance the foldables from Apple's next iPhone. Samsung is also considering holding its next Unpacked event in its home country to promote its bid for World Expo 2023.
