"Deer Park Rehab Reports First Case of Lethal 'Zombie Drug'"
A rehab center in Deer Park, Houston, reported its first case of a patient with xylazine, known as the "Zombie Drug," which is typically an animal tranquilizer. The patient, a woman in her 60s with a 30-year history of drug use, was saved by head nurse Christina DesOrmeaux after Narcan failed to reverse the effects of the drug, which was laced with heroin and fentanyl. Xylazine is dangerous for humans, causing severe sedation and potentially flesh-eating wounds. The DEA notes an increase in xylazine cases in Houston, with the drug often being mixed with other substances unbeknownst to users.
