China Grants EHang Regulatory Approval for Autonomous Flying Taxi
Chinese drone maker EHang has received safety approval certification from China's aviation authority for its 216-S model, a 16-rotor drone capable of carrying two passengers at speeds of 130 km/h for a maximum range of 30 km. While this is a significant step towards commercial use, EHang still requires an operational permit before launching commercial activities. The company's shares have risen 80% this year, although they remain below their peak in December 2020. EHang is considering partnerships with tourism operators and is part of a growing list of companies, including Boeing and Toyota, investing in the emerging eVTOL sector.
