Graham Rahal to Replace Injured Stefan Wilson in Indy 500

INDYCAR has scheduled a special 15-minute practice session on Thursday for the No. 24 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Chevrolet and the No. 44 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda after a practice incident on Monday. The session will allow unlimited install laps but the teams will not be allowed to cross the start-finish line and the Yard of Bricks. The 107th Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 28.

Graham Rahal replaces injured Stefan Wilson for 2023 Indy 500.

Graham Rahal will replace the injured Stefan Wilson in the No. 24 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Chevrolet for the 107th Indy 500. Wilson suffered a fractured vertebra in a crash during Monday's practice session. Rahal, who was bumped from the field during Sunday's qualifying, will start the race at the back of the grid due to IndyCar rules. Rahal has led 28 laps in the Indy 500 and has three top fives, the most recent coming in 2020 when he finished third.

Graham Rahal will drive Dreyer & Reinbold Racing's No.24 Chevrolet in the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday after his own entry was bumped out of the race. Rahal will need to make adjustments as he has never driven anything other than a Honda. He plans to spend time with teammate Ryan Hunter-Reay to streamline the transition. Rahal drove Dreyer & Reinbold's No.24 entry in a one-off at Iowa in 2010. He was one of six drivers to pilot that car during the season.

Stefan Wilson will not race in the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 after suffering a fractured vertebra in a crash with Katherine Legge during Monday's practice session. Wilson was driving for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and qualified 25th. Legge, driving for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, qualified for her third Indy 500 safely in 30th. Both cars were damaged in the crash, but RLL will not run its backup car and instead choose to fix the oval car in time for Friday's "Carb Day" final practice session. Dreyer & Reinbold have not yet announced who will replace Wilson.

Stefan Wilson has been ruled out of the Indy 500 after suffering a fractured vertebra in a crash during practice. Wilson's car was hit from behind by Katherine Legge's Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing machine after cars ahead of them stacked up at Turn 1. Wilson had qualified for what would have been his fifth Indy 500 start in 25th place. It is unclear what steps Cusick and Dreyer & Reinbold will take next.

Stefan Wilson fractured his back in a crash with Katherine Legge during practice for the Indianapolis 500 and will not be allowed to race. Wilson's brother, Justin Wilson, was killed in an IndyCar race in 2015. It is unclear who will replace Wilson for Sunday's race. Stefan Wilson will miss the Indianapolis 500 after suffering a fracture of his 12th thoracic vertebrae during Monday afternoon's practice crash with Katherine Legge. Wilson's team will have to hire a driver to stand-in for him on the starting grid of Sunday's 500. Legge was seen and released from the infield care center at IMS. Wilson was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital for further tests and observation.
