High school basketball introduces new free throw rules.
The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has announced a rule change for high school basketball, doing away with the one-and-one and going to a double bonus. Free throws will now be determined by how many fouls a team has picked up each quarter, not each half. With the fifth foul of each quarter, teams will shoot two free throws. The change will be in effect for the 2023-24 season and is aimed at reducing injury rates on rebounding situations and improving game flow.
