The Chicago Cubs have several prospects making waves in the minor leagues, including catcher Miguel Amaya who has been called up to the majors for the first time. The Cubs are also closely monitoring the use of pre-tacked baseballs in the Double-A Southern League, where their affiliate team Tennessee Smokies play. Other notable prospects include Pablo Aliendo, Haydn McGeary, and Brandon Birdsell, who have all been performing well in the minors. The Cubs are also continuing to sign international free agents, with 17-year-old righty Nestor Pirela being the latest addition.

The Chattanooga Lookouts scored seven runs in the seventh and final inning of the first game of a doubleheader against the Rocket City Trash Pandas, without a single hit, to win the game. The Trash Pandas were cruising with a three-run lead and just three outs away from a no-hitter, but their pitcher Ben Joyce walked the bases loaded and then hit three batters, allowing the Lookouts to score seven runs. The Trash Pandas scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh but ultimately lost the game.
