Nvidia's benchmarks reveal that even the powerful RTX 4090 struggles to achieve 60 FPS at native 4K resolution in the upcoming game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl without using DLSS 3 and Frame Generation. The game, set to release on November 20th, demands high system requirements, with Nvidia recommending the RTX 4080 or AMD's RX 7900 XTX for optimal 4K performance. This highlights the increasing reliance on upscaling technologies in modern gaming to maintain high frame rates at maximum settings.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB is a mid-range graphics card aimed at the mainstream 1080P market, offering performance similar to the RTX 3060 Ti. It features the new Ada graphics chip AD107 and comes with 8GB of GDDR6 memory on a 128-bit interface. The card supports DLSS3 and frame generation, but the use of DLSS3 may result in some quality loss. The GeForce RTX 4060 is priced at $299 and is designed to deliver exceptional gaming performance at Full HD resolution. However, the limited memory capacity and reduced PCI Express lanes may impact its performance in certain games.

NVIDIA has launched the GeForce RTX 4070, a desktop GPU that comes with 12GB of RAM and is priced at $599. The new GPU is considered a successor to the RTX 3070 Ti and offers similar features, but with more RAM, higher clock speeds, more level 2 cache, and greater floating point computing power. NVIDIA pitches the RTX 4070 as ideal for 1440p gaming at over 100 frames per second with ray tracing turned on, although DLSS3 upscaling will need to be enabled to hit that target. The RTX 4070 will be available from April 13th.

NVIDIA claims that the upcoming GeForce RTX 4070 will offer the same performance as the RTX 3080 without Frame Generation, and will be 1.2x faster than the RTX 3070 Ti and 1.3x faster than the RTX 3070 when DLSS2 is used. With DLSS3 and FG, the RTX 4070 will be 1.4x, 1.7x, and 1.8x faster respectively to RTX 30 GPUs. The card is targeting a gaming experience at 1440p with 100 FPS, assuming ray tracing and DLSS3 are enabled. However, the RTX 4070 should be 15% slower on average than the RTX 4070 Ti in gaming, and the gap will widen in favor of RTX 4070 Ti at 4K resolution.

NVIDIA plans to release a Frame Generation plugin for game developers to implement DLSS3 technology into their software. The plugin will be available through NVIDIA Streamline, an open-source framework for integrating super resolution technologies. Alternatively, developers will have access to the Unreal Engine 5.2 DLSS3 plugin, which will be released soon. NVIDIA also announced that DLSS3 adoption is seven times faster than DLSS in the first six months since the technology's introduction, and several new games, including Diablo IV and Forza Horizon 5, will support DLSS3 with Frame Generation technology.
