Columbia University is taking additional steps to combat antisemitism, including formally adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism, appointing coordinators to handle related complaints, expanding training and educational programs, and reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy for discrimination and hate, especially against Jewish and Israeli communities.
The Department of Justice has reached a settlement with the Madison County School District in Kentucky after finding that racism was prevalent in the district and administrators failed to respond appropriately. The district will change its discrimination policies, train and add employees to better identify instances of racism, and update its reporting system for complaints. The settlement comes after a lawsuit was filed by a family whose daughters were frequently called racial slurs and faced discrimination at Madison Southern High School. The district will also prohibit the use of the n-word and Confederate symbols that threaten other students.
